Engine Overhaul ?

Postby KO9954 » Thu Jul 19, 2007 2:59 am

I prob shouldn't even ask, but what is the going rate (in the UK) for an 1928 engine rebuild, assuming the usual "discoveries" once the nuts are loosened?
It might give me an idea of what to expect here in the NW USA.

Any ideas of shops closer to me than a trans-polar flight would also be much appreciated.

John

There is a company called Austin Works East, 25 Tarragon Drive, Sandwich MA 02563 Phone 001 (508) 833 3109
email: austinworks@aol.com
I have no idea what the scale of their business is, but at least they are in the same country, worth a call.
There are a number of Austin enthusiasts in Canada, especially BC. Try Roy Wilkins, a7occanada@yahoo.ca
I'll let others give you an idea of what they have spent recently on rebuilds.

Thanks much - I met Roy Wilkins at an auto show with his nice Austin van several years ago, but I failed to follow up.

If I may qoute from Austin Works East, fyi,

"We only do complete engine rebuilds and to concours level only. You should expect our engines to make 100,000 miles with care and we have done engines for several Pebble Beach winners. The low end is around $3800. The high end could go up to $9000 on a sports engine that needed critical replacement parts."

(prob a little too steep for my needs, but somebody may utilize their services.)
