It's a lot easier to take the dynamo off the car. Leave the distributor attached but take the cap off first so you can note the position of the rotor arm so you can put it back in the same place to avoid upsetting the ignition timing. Also saves pratting about if you drop as screw!
The 3rd brush (I presume it's a C35A dynamo) is the thinner one and goes between the other two. Be careful as it's quite brittle.
